It’s so nice to be back playing games again. Last night was a lot of fun. For the first game of the year, I feel pretty good and hopefully everything just keeps progressing today.
We had a pretty rough first period because we took so many penalties but I think everyone relaxed more as we got into it. The second period was much better, everything felt more smooth, we got some shots on net and scored a couple of goals so it was good.
The coaches didn’t say too much to us after the game but they were happy that we were able to come back. Hopefully we can play well tonight too.
There were about 20 of my family members here last night. When they said my name at the start of the game, they said my name and they got pretty loud. That was really cool to have them here. They sat right across the bench so I was able to see them and when they started cheering, some of the guys commented on it. I knew they would be loud but I don’t mind. My travelling entourage will follow the team to Leduc tonight too so they’ll get to watch me play again.
It’s nice to be backing Edmonton even if it is for a shot amount of time. My older brother and sister live here so I come here quite a bit.
I won’t have a chance to go shopping at West Edmonton Mall on this visit – somewhere I go to a lot because I really like shopping. I would probably say my favourite store is Banana Republic – actually my last purchase was from there, I bought a really nice suit.
One thing I’ve noticed in the past week that has been kind of difficult is adjusting to the media attention. Coming from University, it’s a lot different and there is an adjustment period I have to go through.
I’m not really used to it and I got kind of nervous for the first few times but it’s getting a lot better. The odd TV camera would come out but it was mostly just newspapers. It’s pretty overwhelming the first time I saw all the cameras and I was kind of nervous but I just did it and got it over with. It get easier every time – just like blogging.
